UPDATED INFO ON D.O.T.D.!!! UNDEAD, ZOMBIEGEDDON & DAWN OF THE DEAD remake...

Hey folks, Harry here... Turns out the story that Creature-Corner.com got about DAWN OF THE DEAD being toned down to PG-13, with the hard R stuff being saved for the DVD release is in fact false. James Gunn wrote to tell me it was absolutely wrong and that the release was going to be a hard R - with a possible Unrated DVD coming later. So that's good! NOW - all they have to do is change the title!

Hey folks, Harry here... Well briefly... that DAWN OF THE DEAD remake is officially suck times ten. I'm getting reports from all over that it is going to be PG-13 - WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT OF THAT? The script, which I actually liked quite a bit even if it was written by the international criminal responsible for the SCOOBY DOO script... But having all the gore toned down... The language toned down.... The situations toned down... FUCKING STUDIOS! Sigh. Meanwhile, the White Chocolate Man has chimed me in on a site with a virtual tour of the new DAWN OF THE DEAD mall - which doesn't create any excitement at all... click here... Lastly - the best Zombie film we'll see anything in the immediate future... UNDEAD by the Spierig Brothers has apparently been picked up by that distributor of Quality Horror films... LION'S GATE. Not sure what the release plan is on that, but let's hope they don't touch a hair on that warped film's noggin! GREAT ZOMBIE FLICK! Meanwhile, here's a look at the low low low budget Zombie flick.... ZOMBIEGEDDON...

Harry,

I had seen some stuff on your site on this movie "Zombiegeddon" which got me interested in it a bit. I was playing around the internet and found out it was playing in Nashville at this art house place that apparently shows everything from Troma films to the new Golina movie. Anyway I thought I'd send my thoughts on it. It does have all the horror movie essentials: boobs and gore. There are three sets of boobs that I saw, one set of which belonged to the great Brinke Stevens that popped out during her sex scene with Tom Savini who was playing Jesus Christ in a cameo towards the beginning of the film.

Then there's the gore which is kind of Herschell Gordon Lewis meets Troma. There's blood flying onto walls, guts falling onto video store floors, head explosions, gut ripping, etc. The make up didn't seem as bad to me as your last review said. It wasn't Savini level but I didn't think it was bad. It also has a side story of zombies interchanging into humans which is unique and I think could have been touched on a bit more than it was. It did have more familiar faces than any other horror movie I can recall but some of them seemed underused. It did have some kung fu action in it too that was kind of fun to see along with many funny lines. I think this movie plays more so to a Troma audience than any other group. Some of the best performances for me were from Brinke Stevens, Tom Savini, Lloyd Kaufman, and Robert Z'Dar. These four really stood above the rest and shine in their roles. Brinke is able to bounce between happy DJ to a mad and disgruntled employee while Savini plays Jesus smoothly and Lloyd goes wild with his antics as a janitor being chased by zombie looking freaks and then Robert Z'Dar gives a great performance as a cop out to bust the heroes. I think this movie may be the best for all of them as far as acting goes, although that's not saying much.

This movie is verrrrry low budget and it shows but I think it's up to the level that it is where it's being shown in theaters across the states and will no doubt be seen on video shelves soon. I'd be shocked if I had seen this film with no names in it and it didn't become a cult classic. It isss fast paced and funny and very different from the pack. I think when this film is completely done (it was shown without final credits so there's definitely more for them to do) it will be the one people are talking about.

On the negative side it is low budget and it does have some b movie folks and apparent amateurs who aren't so good at acting. Some of them, like the video store clerk, should be shot and murdered and dragged along the street like in Citizen Toxie for their atrocious acting. I think the film makes up for it though with it's tongue in cheek approach and with the fun you have watching it despite the fact you KNOW it's just a big b movie. I think any b movie fan will be overly satisfied with this one but those of you who like that artsy stuff might be a bit disappointed.
