N.Y. Licensing Show: Not much -- then HELLBOY!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... Seems everyone is dying to figure out when Peter Jackson is going to release the first major look at RETURN OF THE KING, and from what I've been hearing, we'll get a 10 minute preview of RETURN OF THE KING on the TWO TOWERS dvd at the end of the summer - then we'll get a trailer of some sort, but I'm hearing that Peter has been very caught up in the actual production of RETURN OF THE KING and that at this point - they don't have to be as aggressive in selling this one - as the anticipation tempers every other film we see this year. God, I'd love to see this HELLBOY display - and a 5 minute making of video on HELLBOY. Really can't believe they'd have Sammael (the Demon) in a place to be seen -- Guillermo really wants the lid on Sammael. Hmmm I have to admit, "what blew me away was, of course.. HELLBOY," that quote just gets me giddy. Hehehe...

Dear HeadGeek,

Pitdoc here, with a report from the NYC Licensing Show. Not sure if anyone's given a report yet, but just some thoughts..

The Licensing Show is where anything that can be licensed, from Barbie, to Lord of the Rings, to .. no kidding.. The Marines Scout and Sharpshooters Association ( shudder) . First thing off, the LOTR: ROTK clip they showed at the New Line Booth left me quite unimpressed. Nothing more than stock scenes from the movie, with no action or FX shots. I can only assume that Peter is workin gon a slam bang one for late summewr. Was more impressed with the Elf and American Splendor trailers. I 've been anticipating American Splendor for a while . They had some of the costumes from Underworld, maybe even the outfit Kate Beckinsdale wore ( Must ... resist ...urge .. to ... fondle..) .Very little stuff shown on Harry Potter, though there was a full train mockup for the Polar Express there..

But, what blew me away was , of course.. HELLBOY. Not only did they have some of the props from the movie, including his gun ( Looks like it weighs 15 lbs!) and some 2 foot models of Abe, Baby Hellboy, and a Demon( I confess to never having read Hellboy, so I am a little uninformed) but they had a FIVE MINUTE video onthe making of the movie, with scenes, and some FX shots( A lot of unfinished FX work too, unless Abe wears a wetsuit a lot, which is possible).Scenes of the NTFB and a battle between Hellboy and somebody. John Hurt looks his mad scientist best, and Selma Blair,, oooo.. The Best Line , "How am I gonna pick up a girl when I ride on a garbage truck." And they had what looked like a theater poster( without any titles) of Selma, Ron , and Abe nicely posed. Maybe if I go tommorrow, they'll let me take a pic.. Till then, I remain yours...

And from Talk Back below we have this report from 81666:

caught the 5 min. hellboy making of, when i had noticed to very cool SAMMAEL resin statue. as well as Abe (i wish he has a nose, seriously) breakdown of the thing by what i can remember, looked pretty good.

but i am worried about the public's acceptance of such an off the wall film such as this. i myself can't wait to see it, but hellboy in this doesn't have say the classic look of a hero such as spiderman or the crow (meaning they're more human looking) but that's the whole point to find the hero ithin a beast. dailies always look really downgraded, like a bad TNT movie or something. but i know this will look much better on the big screen.

sammael (i believe is the hulking creature with the tentacles) looks absolutely ferocious. i'm still kind of iffy about abe's face, on how he will talk. he had on this weird breathing apparatus. selma blair with a strange flow of hair and bangs. a really kickass looking evil nazi bastard (i beleive from the same picture that was posted up last week) and he is slashing at people m(i'm guessing allied forces) with his twin blades. rasputin is shown with the glove on (pretty cool) lots of allied forces walking into barren towns, wastelands. a large museum like hall, with intricate carvings, where hellboy fights sammael. a girl and hellboy converse on the roof of a building. sometimes he moves clunky, sometimes, he moves swiftly. some strange zombie looking creature, like a dead man, that is holding around hellboy's shoulders. and is talking (but i believe he's a good guy)

so far so good, let's see how this visually brilliant film will kick ass, hope it's better than BLADE2! i never read the books and only hear good things, but i still love to see bizarre looking films. just like MAY (which was so so) (i've never read the comics so maybe some of you guys can fill in on the blanks) until they make johnny the homicidal maniac the movie,

i remain 81666
