More on THE HULK + bits on lots of others!
Hey folks, Harry here... With a report from SHOW-CANADA which had a helluvalot of cool stuff screening. I'd love more reports on this. As for THE HULK, the word that I'm hearing is that the film is absolutely terrific, but that executives are a bit worried because it feels more like an art film than the "typical" super-hero film. Having read the script, I can say with the utmost confidence that the trailers you've seen thus far are a bit deceptive (imagine that) - while they are full of cool HULK action beats... and there's a great deal of that stuff in the film, this film is first and foremost a drama and to a certain extent a Tragedy on par with the classics. I know that sounds bizarre and weird given the trailers you've seen, but that's certainly what the script was. While the film will have moments to cheer, there's tears in this thing too. Well, if Ang did his job right, and I've heard he has. Here ya go... and that Jim Carrey as the voice of the Turtle Dreamworks project... is that the TORTOISE AND THE HARE that AARDMAN is doing? Hmmmm....
Hey Harry,
I'm a film nerd myself and I have had the luck of working at showcanada this past week and the stuff I've seen is mind boggling. On wed, in a confrence to all the important people Universal showed about 50 mins of the Hulk. I have to say for the parts I was able to sneak in and see, I was really left in awe. I never dreamed I would have a chance to see this.
Then I was approached by my boss and he told me "think think this is great? Rumor is that they are screening the matrix tomorrow", it just arrived and was transported to the hotels volt with an anturage of security. Well the following morning came and sadly it wasn't the whole movie but it was enough for me. Waner Bro. showed about 30 mins of the film. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but the special effects that I saw left my jaw on the floor. Warner brothers won't have to advertise the third film at all. I promise all of you if you go and spend whatever it costs to see this film you won't be disapointed. If the story doesn't do it for you, the specticals on the screen sure will.
Also on monday they screened the film American Wedding, and although it was behind closed doors, I was able to sneek in once again. I watched about half the film and had alot of laughs. the film wasn't completed, so some parts was in really rough shape like the sound was really bad and their was no music for alot of the movie. Even some scenes where computer effects are suppose to be they had drawings on the scene. I'm looking forward to seeing the full film.
Finally the last film that was screened was Mumbo Italiano. I'm willing to bet anything this will be the next crave. Just like My big fat greek wedding, the producers struck the right chords. They really seem to think that stories taking place in diffrent ethnic background families is the big phad at the moment. This film, is about 2 italian families who find out their sons are gay and try to blame the other family for making their son gay. It was hilarious.
This is all I have on screenings, I missed two that I'm aware of (terminator 3 and Pirates of the ...) Besides the screenings, before them the film companies did a lil presentation about future films. What I noticed is that Dreamworks is really pushing animated films. One that I thought you might be intrested in, is with Jim Carry, the film is about a turtle and comes out in 2005. Thats all I know. They also spoke alot about Shrek 2. Thats all I have for now. If you want anything in more detail let me know and I'll be more then happy to help you out.
Bongo
Meanwhile, keep your eyes open for the upcoming CFQ - it has one helluva cover:
