Some FREDDY VS. JASON News And Another Test Screening Review!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

It’s a big fat news-packed Monday morning, so I’m going to try and whip through as many stories as I can for you guys before I collapse.

First up, there’s a bit from BloodyDisgusting.com where Robert Englund talks about one of the films that I get tons and tons of e-mail about. If you’re a spoiler freak, check out the new Summer Preview issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. There’s a behind-the-scenes gallery of photos, and one of them is from this film’s climax, and it’s pretty revealing. Ronny Yu also refers to the film by its mock-HK title in the same issue: FOUR FINGERS OF DEATH VERSUS THE MACHETE. Anyway, you guys seem to be incredibly interested in any bit of info about this film, so let’s see how this sits with you:

Harry

Bloody Disgusting has a short transcript of Robert Englund’s BBC interview in which he confirmed plans are underway to do a prequel to "nightmare 1" - at last!

"Freddy vs Jason looks superb, heck, it is superb. It wouldn't surprise me if fans of the series see it as the definitive chapter in the Krueger saga", says Englund. "Ronny Yu did such a great job. Like Wes Craven, he has a real eye for detail and assured everyone involved in this film it wasn't going to burst like an overboiled hot water bottle. What he has done is take everyone's favourite aspect of the Freddy character, and everyone's favourite bits of Jason, and combine them into a movie that will surely appeal to everyone. Hey, not just fans! Just wait till you see this thing - it's scary, funny, thrilling... I’m very excited".

Englund then talked about the future.

"Well, Ronny would like to do a whole series of Freddy vs Jason movies. He believes this is the start of a new series. If it happens, great. I think we will all be back. We had such a great time on this movie, it's going to be far from a chore to draw everyone back for seconds".

"Who knows maybe we might even see another solo Freddy movie again, if that's what the fans want".

The interviewer asked about prequel rumors.

"That's the plan yes. Ronny has sort of taking on a new surrogate father role to Freddy Krueger and Jason, so if any more solo movies come along, he's already told the studio he wants first option on directing them. I've always thought a Freddy prequel would be a wonderful idea, and now with Exorcist, the time feels right. That would be great fun, if only because I'll only be in make-up for like a quarter of the picture. Let's see how Freddy vs Jason does first thought before we get too excited. But yes, it's definitely something Ronny and I have been talking about".

Englund also said his favourite Elm street was the first - because it was primarily a scary movie - said he would love to direct something again soon, and reflected a bit on the tv series V.

Next up, we’ve got Sexy Bitch and her review of the film based on last week’s test screening. This is, I believe, the first female reaction to the film, and considering that horror films are driven at the box office in large part by women, it’s important to see how they might respond to it. Check this out:

Big ups to Moriarty and Harry. Luv the site. FYI – I’ve seen X2 and agree with all the reviews - it's the real deal and [BIG FAT HONKIN’ SPOILER DELETED] but on to my Thursday night out – FREDDY VS. JASON.

My bf got a screening pass and dragged me along (despite my closet addiction to AICN). I’m not a big horror girl but I have some memories of the characters from my childhood, enough to know Freddy would kick Jason’s ass. I saw H20 in the theatre with friends and enjoyed it, so i was open to checking this out. I can tell you it left H20 in the dust. A much much much better movie. Like a ride. It's not really a scary movie (it has its moments) but more of a fun time (a girl’s got to have an outlet).

There is a lot of blood so if you're not into that be warned. At first i was shocked but then actually got into the carnage.

SPOILERS

Freddy and Jason were both great, with the battle actually being really even. I groaned when I saw the girl from Destiny's Child (why does every female singer now have to be a singer/actress?) but she was actually a lot better than i was expecting. Her death scene was awesome and had the most memorable line in the movie. I got the impression a lot of the people at the screening (it was the Redondo Galleria) were fans as there was cheering for both guys. There’s a lot of pot humor, so expect a HIGH TIMES magazine nomination for best movie. The main kids were not bad, but Monica Keena from UNDECLARED was too over the top for me. There was a sex scene ending (after the fight ends) that was horrible. One of the worst movie scenes ever. She was moaning and groaning like a porno star and people were laughing at her. My bf and i kept making her noises in the car on the way home. My bf was really pissed that the movie had no tits.

It seems like the movie was all about setting up the fight scenes but I liked them a lot. Freddy kicks Jason’s ass in the dream world and Jason rips Freddy to pieces in the real world. This was the first time i ever thought Jason was remotely interesting cause he’s just a big slug from what I remember. Here he was like a bulldozer and I think a lot of the crowd was rooting for him at the end. Freddy is Freddy and he's got some great lines. The final fight was very bloody, but it was so over the top it was fun. The big highlight for me was a rave where all hell breaks loose and Jason is on fire. He kills a fat dude, who was probably my favorite kid (along with the stoner who looked like Jay) in the whole movie, Keena being the worst. The final battle is at the camp where Jason died as a kid and the crowd was totally into it, clapping and cheering. It's really violent.

My biggest problem was with the ending cause it left things way too open ended. After that fight I dont know how either guy could survive. I’m actually thinking about seeing this again in the theatre cause I’m curious to see how they change the finished product (I’ve only been to one other test screening american beauty, and that movie didn’t change a bit), but my friends aren't exactly into this stuff so we'll see. The fans seemed to leave satisfied (you could hear them all buzzing on the way out), so I think this could actually be a surprise hit when it comes out (I think end of summer). Do you think there is enough demand?

Thanks for the site, guys. It keeps us movie chicks spinning around! My codename is sexy bitch.

Thank you for the review. It’s readers like you that keep Harry and I spinning, so we’re even.

"Moriarty" out.
