Uncapie Sneaks A Peek At CHILDREN OF DUNE!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Uncapie doesn’t drop by often enough these days, but when he does, you can rest assured he’ll bring some sort of buzz on a geekcentric project with him, and today’s no different. Seems he’s already seen CHILDREN OF DUNE, and he wants to share his impressions. Check this out:

If you liked the "Dune" series a few years ago that the Sci Fi Channel presented, you'll love this one!

John Harrison, who wrote and directed the first series, writes a faithful adaptation of Frank Herbert's books, "Dune Messiah" and "Children Of Dune" combining the two into a well thought out, six hour tour de force. Greg Yaitanes takes over the reigns as director and does a nice job weaving the story together. After decades of war, Paul Antreides (Alec Newman, reprising his role) has brought peace between the two planets. But, all is not well in the Dune universe. Conspiracy, double and triple crosses start up again all in the name of the spice trade for he who controls the spice, controls the universe!

Paul's sister begins to have nightmares and is possessed by the soul of Baron Harkonnen (a great reprisal by Ian McNeice). Enter the birth of Paul's children; the twins Leto II and Ghanima, for it is they who will decide the fate of the planet. Without giving any spoilers away, there's plenty of action and a solid story. Susan Sarandon does a nice job as Wensicia, a conniving, greedy woman who will not stop at anything to control the spice. Character actor, Steven Berkoff does an excellent job as Stilgar. P.H. Moriarity reprises his role as Paul Antreides's sage advisor and protector, Gurney Halleck. And in the Dune world, what would it be without Duncan Idaho (Edward Atterton) coming back controlled by an evil, manipulating dwarf?! And The Navigator makes an appearance, but what is his trecherous motive? The plot thickens!

The standouts though are newcomers James McAvoy and Jessica Brooks as Leto II and Ghanima who will guide the destiny of the Dune universe. They both add depth to their characters and believability. They both have a certain quality that I'm sure that they will go on to do other great roles in future films as they are that good. The special effects are fantastic! The ornithopters are updated and have a detailed look to them. The sandworms: great as usual! There's even a simulated atomic bomb explosion that sends a shockwave through the city that gives you this feeling that you're in the middle of it! Chilling!

The highly anticipated, "Children Of Dune" will be one of the best mini series to watch this year. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy!

Uncapie
