Eli Roth & Richard Kelly snuggling with each other for a new Horror Project!

Hey folks, Harry here. It seems there's a traffic jam of activity occuring for Mr Eli Roth right now. There's this really cool sounding project that Quint is about to tell us about, but in-between snuggles with Mr Roth on his and mine's panel about RESPONSIBLE FILMMAKING today, he whisper into my ear about his down and naughty T&A Sex Comedy he's got percolating. There's also ANOTHER horror project that he'll be a part of, but he feels it might jinx things to mention it yet, but he's very excited about it. I also sat next to Eli during Robert Rodriguez's evangelical sermon about the coming Digital Age, and watched Eli hit by the glowing heaven light and begin shaking like Belushi, that's when he stood up and screamed out, "YES, I CAN SEE THE LIGHT!" and began doing flip-flops up and down the stadium stairs. Strangely, nobody else in the room saw this, but me. But I think I saw Robert make a new convert to his new age preachings about the New Cinema. If you ever get to see Rodriguez's "New Cinema" presentation, do it. Then go home and watch Cronenberg's THE FLY and listen to Jeff Goldblum talk to Geena Davis about the New Flesh. Hmmmmm.... Here's Quint...

Ahoy squirts. Quint here with a neat little bit about a project in the works that us horror fans will eagerly await.

I was at a screening tonight at SXSW of CABIN FEVER. I had seen CABIN FEVER a few times already (read my original review here!!!) and as a huge horror geek I'm happy see that like any great entertaining horror flick, CABIN FEVER is standing up to repeat viewings terrifically. It gets better every time I see it. Anyway, the director of the flick, Eli Roth, was there and he mentioned that one of his next projects will be a collaboration with none other than Richard Kelly, the mastermind behind the brilliant DONNIE DARKO and various other scripts that I have yet to read, but hear Knowles rave on about (like BESSIE and DOMINO). (HARRY NOTE: Don't forget KNOWING)

This should come as great news to all the horror fans out there. Sure, most of you haven't seen CABIN FEVER yet, but when you do, you'll understand why I'm so jonesed about Mr. Kelly and Mr. Roth working together. Eli Roth gave out just the above tidbit at the Q&A, but that wasn't enough to satiate me. After some careful digging I found that not only are Richard Kelly and Eli Roth cowriting a project (with Eli Roth directing), but they are adapting a Richard Matheson story. Yes, Richard "I Am Legend" Matheson. Now I'm not sure what exactly it is, whether it's a Matheson novel, short story, teleplay or whatever, but I really could care less. Matheson is an amazing writer and with Kelly and Roth writing an adaptation... It's something to get excited about it.

This will be the first time Richard Kelly has collaborated on a screenplay with anybody, though they seem quite the pair. Eli himself said during the Q&A that "Rich and I are totally in sync creatively. Donnie Darko is 99% bunny man, 1% Evil Dead and Cabin Fever is 99% Evil Dead and 1% bunny man. He puts the chocolate in my peanut butter." That sounds kind of sexual to me, but whatever floats their boats. As long as they keep knocking out great horror flicks, they can peanut butter each other all they want.

Rest assured, we'll be keeping a very close eye on this film here at AICN and will keep you up to date on its progress. These two guys are the cream of the crop in the horror field right now. I can't wait to see how this collaboration turns out.
