Super-quick update this morning. Too much to do. Too little time. I’ll try to hit you guys with a ton of stories and reviews tomorrow night, but for now, let’s all just bask in the one thing that Warner Bros. seems incapable of screwing up these days... THE MATRIX.
If you head over to THE ANIMATRIX site, you’ll be able to see the first nine-minute installment of this oddball sister project to this year’s two giant-budget sequels. If the other eight installments are as beautifully realized as THE SECOND RENAISSANCE, PART I, then we’re in for one amazing year of SF courtesy of the Wachowskis and their collaborators. They wrote this episode, and Mahiro Maeda has done an astonishing job of realizing it. Now I can see why NEWSWEEK raved about this one in particular.
They also just launched the site for ENTER THE MATRIX, the video game that is also being called a “sideways sequel” to the films. Can’t wait to see how this one fills in the gaps between RELOADED and REVOLUTIONS with an hour of original live-action footage, and I hope all the hype about kung-fu moves created by Yuen Wu Ping is actually true.
So pipe up... let’s tell Warner Bros. what we think when they do something right. I, for one, am firmly onboard whatever this franchise has to offer this year, and can’t wait for PROGRAM, the next ANIMATRIX installment next month.
