Pair of peeks at DARKNESS FALLS!!!

Hey folks, Harry here with a pair of reviews that got me anxious to check out a scary movie from Revolution Pictures. They're the same place that seems to be having a lot of fun with genres at this point. War film, Comedy, Horror... ya know, I haven't seen overwrought melodrama yet, but that could always be POST-HUMAN - true biopic of Michael Jackson. Oh, sorry... can't take that back, the backspace key is broken. Anyway, these two reviews in combination with that really cool trailer we linked to a while back... Well, it has me anxious to see the film. Click here for the Trailer! Now read the reviews...

What’s up everyone? I’m now writing my SECOND review ever.  So don’t punish me too much if the writing ‘ain’t up to par’. Anyway, I got to see this film by the name ofDarknessFalls(which is the name of the city where the movie takes place).  The guy who introduced the movie said we’re the first to see it, who knows? I’d watched the trailer a couple nights before, and it looked really good.  But with most horror/suspense films like this, the trailer is usually a lot better than the end result. So I wasn’t sure what to expect. But after watching the film, all I have to say is, “DAMN!!!!!”  This film was fantastic! It’s directed by some newbie director fromSouth Africa, so I’m very excited to watch this guy’s career. The film sets up exactly the same way as the trailer (just download it and you’ll see) so the film just gets right into it.

The opening is just classic. Remember the opening from Scream 1 – remember how great that was? This one is far superior! Then after the beginning, there’s a brief calm period to introduce the characters and such, and then from then on it’s just absolutely terrifying. My girl was holding on to my arm the whole time, but I was sort of clinging to her as well.  The scary points were made even scarier because they had the SFX turned up twice as loud, which really worked wonders.  It sort of reminded me slightly of Pitch Black since darkness is used as the catalyst for the “bad guy” to do his “bad work” or something like that.

Even though the film was short (75 minutes), it felt perfect. I’m actually glad it was that short, because they really crammed this entire movie with some crazy s*!#.  As soon as I got home, I called my best friend about this film. I have a feeling that once word spreads, this film is going to be HUGE! Until next time, I’m out.

Superdavit

Now here's one by a fella that saw the film, then worked himself up into a fear tizzy. Hopefully he found his Glow Worm to cuddle with that night. Sheesh, how scary can the Tooth Fairy really be...

Harry,

When I returned home from a screening tonight of DARKNESS FALLS, I found myself doing something I hadn’t done to this degree since JAWS. You know how after a truly scary movie certain silly things send you into a total fear tizzy. Fear tizzy? Whatever. You know what I mean. Instead of avoiding all things containing water for years like I did post JAWS, I suddenly found myself a tad bit nervous about exiting my car in my dimly lit garage. After all, YOU MUST STAY IN THE LIGHT! If not, she’ll KILL YOU. So, like the total and utter buffoon that I am, I jump from the car and kinda jog towards my house. The whole time wanting nothing more than to make it to the relative safety of the light provided by my friendly neighborhood street light. Street lights are SERIOUSLY underrated.

Who do I fear so much? The Tooth Fairy, that’s who. Let me tell ya’, this is truly one scary bitch. Holy shit, legitimate scares throughout this entire film! The kind where you spill soda and popcorn all over yourself and the easily irritated smelly stranger sitting next to you.

I was lucky enough to be included in what we were told was the first audience to see this film. I hadn’t even seen the trailer so I was excited to enjoy a film I knew NOTHING about. This is something that happens to me far to rarely these days. The crowd seemed excited too.

So, they start the flick and immediately it’s super creepy. The legend of “The Tooth Fairy” is explained and the voice-over and the visuals had me instantly spooked. Then it cut to a kid standing at a bathroom sink with his back to the camera. Suddenly, some dufus in the audience yells, “He’s jerking off!” (Which he wasn’t mind you) And, guess what! About twenty or so other dufus’ found this hysterical and started laughing. Of course, a pack of these idiots continued with their obnoxious behavior. I thought about leaving because I go crazy if someone talks during a movie, let alone does an entire comedy routine. Then the screen went black and the lights came back on. I figured they were gonna toss the assholes, but instead they explained there was a problem with the projector and there would be a 2 minute delay.

I figured the movie was doomed after the scattered immature laughter and the projector breakdown. I’ve seen it happen before at these type of screenings. The crowd can turn on a film. But, just as soon as the audience caught their first glimpse of the monster, the only thing they turned was white.

Seriously, Harry. This is some scary shit. I don’t want to get all into explaining the plot and such for numerous reasons. I’m too tired, lazy, hungry, etc. Besides, I’m sure others will provide that info. I just want to tell ya’ how much fun I had. Beginning to end, I found myself bracing for the next scare. The crowd applauded, hooted and hollered, screamed, too many times to count. FOR REAL!!! They ate it up. You could literally see the “suits” high-fiving each other in the back of the theater with dollar signs in their eyes.

One of the things I really liked was the fact that I didn’t recognize one actor in this movie. The lead actress is on some show on the WB, but I’ve never seen her. In my minds eye she is Kaitlin. And the actors playing Kyle and Michael are Kyle and Michael. This really helped draw me in.

I never thought I’d find flashlights, bedsheets, dashboards, sensory deprevation chambers, the dark, etc., so scary.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and deem this one a horror movie classic. A franchise is born.

You can call me “MC Popcorn Eatin’ Machine”
