I don’t know what to make of this. Why anyone would release a 2.35:1 film on DVD in anything BUT that aspect ratio in this day and age is a total f’ing mystery to me. Check this nonsense out:
Just thought I'd let you know the region 1 DVD of Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures has been officially announced and it is pan and scan (the original aspect ratio is 2.35:1). This is pretty much a giant slap in the face to all of us who love the film. Sound is Dolby Surround 2.0 and there are no extras save for a trailer. I don't mind about the extras or the Dolby Surround, but there's no way I'll buy this thing chopped up. Jackson can't be too cool with it either, provided they've even told him it's going to be released. I taped it in 2.35:1 off of IFC years ago and was looking forward to replacing my worn out tape with a nice new DVD. I've even seen the laserdisc, which has a 2.35:1 transfer of the film on it. Someone needs to call Disney/Miramax on this and fast.
Thanks for the heads-up, Tyler. Let’s hope this is all some horrible miscommunication and we can straighten it out in the days ahead.
