Luc Besson Back Behind The Wheel For MICHEL VAILLANT!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

I wish I knew more about MICHEL VAILLANT, which is evidently a very famous French comic book about a race car driver. I can tell you this... I will probably have an opportunity to learn more about the comic very soon, since Luc Besson seems to be filming a movie about the character even as we speak. Or I type. Whatever.

Here’s the e-mail I got with these photos attached:

Hi Harry

Happy to tell you that Luc Besson and Louis-Pascal Couvelaire is filming for a new race movie called Michel Vaillant, based on a french comic.

This will take place during the 24 Hour Le Mans race in France (its a part of the American Le Mans series). Normally it is raced with 48 cars, but Besson was allowed to put in to extra cars that will star in the movie. One of them is the good guys: the Vaillant's teams Lola, and the bad guys: the Leader's teams Panoz(nice for you americans eh?).

The race started june 15. 15:00 GMT and will end june 16. 15:00 GMT.

The filmcrew will come back to the track later this year for some extra filming and they have also rented the Bugatti-track.

I'm a big fan of the Taxi movies, and so i'm looking very much forward for this one.

I have some nice pictures for you, too!!

Hope you found it interesting...

There was also a great story that ran about this in VARIETY over the weekend:

Looks like racing is about to become a hot commodity on film again despite the recent stinging failure of DRIVEN. One could blame many things for that film’s failure (hiring the Big Dumb Fin, as his friends call him, to direct the film was probably a key error), but there’s no doubt that racing itself is as popular right now as it’s ever been. In addition to MICHEL VAILLANT, which has a good chance to be a good film because of the involvement of Besson, there is a work of such sheer brilliance and power in the planning stages that I can barely bring myself to speak about it. Or type. Whatever.

Start your engines, indeed.

"Moriarty" out.
