Report on John McTiernan's BASIC!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... You might remember my review of the BASIC script and here's a look at some of the first footage seen anywhere of McTiernan's latest film. Here ya go...

Hi Harry,

Thought you might be interested in a sneak peek of John Mctiernan's 'BASIC' trailer I caught this week.

I work in film Post-Production in London and some clients brought in the rough cut of the trailer which they were temp-tracking.

The trailer was long (around 4:59) and was made up of what looked like final shots and also some light rush prints.

It started with a great opening shot of a chopper flying over jungle (much like Predator). Very smooth a la Kubrick with The Shining and incredibly moody. The shot ends with soldier abseiling from the helicopter into the jungle. Very nice, long all one take.

The jungle stuff is very reminiscent of 'Predator' but with a far more modern grade. Crushed blacks, lots of greens and browns. Also it seems like the crux of the jungle stuff occurs during a thunderstorm. Again, moody.

As for the rest of it I have to admit I was disappointed as it turns out it deals with some kind of military incident that Connie Neilsen and John Travolta investigate.

Sam Jackson shouts and screams. Giovanni Ribisi does his fragile rabbit crying retard goblin thing and everyone else shouts and points guns at each other in some kind of giant treehouse.

But it could be good I suppose. It is set partly in a Jungle and John Mctiernan is the jungle god (cinematically speaking, maybe for real).

Anyway thought you'd like to know.

Anyone in London for AOTC may want to see it at the Brixton Ritzy where they are showing a digital presentation by a live satellite feed. Very tasty.

My name is Gaz.

I'm not a Spaz.

LATRZ!!!!!!!!!
