HERC's Seen the 20th ENTERPRISE!!

Enterprise 1.20 FAQ

What’s it called?

“Oasis.”

Who’s responsible?

Teleplay is credited to Chris Black (“Rogue Planet”).

How does this episode compare to “Rogue Planet”?

The episode with the tapeworm girl? Favorably.

1.20? Are there only two more episodes left?

No. While most hourlong dramas only crank out 22 episodes yearly, “Enterprise” is one of the few series left that actually produces at least 26 hours of programming each season, the way God intended.

What does TV Guide say?

“After hearing of a supposedly haunted alien ship, Archer decides to cannibalize the ship's husk to replenish Enterprise's supplies and discovers the vessel is inhabited after all. Rene Auberjonois (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”) plays Ezrel. D'Marr: Tom Bergeron. Liana: Annie Wersching. Maya: Claudette Sutherland. Kuulan: Rudolph Willrich.”

What’s Herc’s secret name for this episode?

“Spooky Haunted Ghost Ship!”

What’s the last line of the teaser?

“What are you saying? The ship was haunted?”

What is TV Guide not telling us?

“I promise not to say anything!” the hot blonde alien tells her dad, the guy who used to play Odo, just before she boards Enterprise.

When does she say this?

Almost halfway in.

Is the crew suspicious?

Yes.

Why is the crew suspicious?

Well, there’s the airponics bay. “It’s not big enough to feed all the people on that ship, sir,” explains Travis. Plus? Analysis of the downed ship’s oxidation rate indicates the aliens were stranded 22 years ago – not three years ago as claimed. And the whole ghost theory takes on new relevance when a long-jettisoned escape pod is discovered.

When do we find out what’s really going on?

The big reveal comes just before the final act.

There’s a hot blonde alien? Who gets to date her, Trip or Archer?

Trip.

The big news?

This installment might remind more than a few people of “The Cage,” the Jeffrey Hunter pilot that spawned the entire Star Trek universe.

Do the aliens try to breed Archer and Hoshi??

No.

Does Archer start shouting things like “Ahead, time-warp factor four!”?

No.

Does the hot daughter run around in a minidress??

She does!

What’s good?

Characterization is strong, as is pacing. It’s a Trip-centric episode, and Connor Trinneer does a typically swell job – but the best thing about this series, without question, is Jolene Blalock, that perfect TV miracle: she’s a sexpot who knows how a Vulcan works. T’Pol’s resolve in the face of Trip’s thinly-veiled mockery – and her ability to retaliate in kind – continues to do Leonard Nimoy proud. And Linda Park’s Hoshi (glimpsed, even now, so fleetingly)? As well as this week’s blonde alien girl? No less compelling. Who cast these “Enterprise” women? Give him or her a gigantic raise at once!

What’s not so good?

The big payoff isn’t necessarily as big a payoff as one might have hoped. And if you watch the episode again, you’ll notice some odd inconsistencies involving Liana’s relationship to her crewmates.

How does it end, spoiler boy?

Inviso-text on: Trip says goodbye.
