A Look At Pieces of Michael Moore's BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE!!!

Hey folks, Harry here.... That lovely soopergenius Michael Moore is at it again. Dropping a boulder of satire upon the head of America! Yippee! This is, quite frankly, one of the movies I am most anticipating this year. Moore has such a wicked sharp rapier wit when it comes to dissecting idiocy, that I can't wait for this latest work.. as the target is one that I believe we all share a hatred for. Here's a look at a tiny preview that he gave in Boulder, Colorado. Enjoy...

Hello,

It is possible that others have informed you of this, and you have deemed it not very important, but I thought I might as well try for my pathetic attempt at anonymous fame anyway.

Saturday night in Boulder, Michael Moore came for a talk, book signing (for his new book, "Stupid White Men"), and to show some clips from his forthcoming documentary, "Bowling for Columbine." We might have been the first public audience to see these clips; that was the implication, at least. We may have been afforded this distinction since we are close to Littleton, which of course figures prominently in the film.

A lot of the evening centered around the book, and issues that it brought up (e.g. our ridiculous Dubya). But I will concentrate here on the film. It does not have a particular villain (unlike "Roger and Me"), but is an examination of the American culture of violence. The word "examination" makes it sound boring, but, as one would expect from him, it is told with a lot of humor. The title refers to the fact that the Columbine gunboys actually went to their bowling class the morning before they massacred. (Moore brings up the point that this may imply that bowling, not violent TV, Marilyn Manson etc., are responsible for violence.) It does not focus just on Columbine, though; Moore goes to visit his homestate Michigan Militia, and interviews a wacko who may have been involved with the Oklahoma City bombing but was not prosecuted due to lack of evidence. One of the funniest, and saddest, parts is when Moore takes up a bank's offer of a free rifle with the opening of a bank account. He also criticises our country's predilection for bombing other countries.

He plans to show the film at Cannes this year, and, if possible (a prospect which he perhaps jokingly doubts), obtain a distributor for a wide release. It looked like a great documentary! He also mentioned that when his income exceeds what he can reasonably spend (as it is now doing), he donates the rest of it to charities and so forth. I think America's lucky to have him.

Thanks,

Nernom*
