Tidbit about SHREK 2!

Harry here, I liked SHREK... had fun with it. Actually upon multiple viewings it began to become a bit pedestrian. Ultimately the ending was very safe and PC. Wasn't nearly as non-traditional or topsy-turvy as I think they were aiming for. If ultimately the beautiful princess had fallen in love with the Donkey.... that would have been shockingly non-traditional. But ultimately falling in love with someone of your exact type... DUH... How unique is that? Throughout the film all the choices fall along the same sort of way. Good defeats evil, evil always sucks and is very traditional. What if evil had nothing but fine qualities. What if good was completely wrong? What if everything hadn't been happily ever after? Well, it wouldn't of made the money it did this year. And it wouldn't necessarily be in as many homes that that DVD now resides, but had it been more daring I might be wanting to watch it again now. I might be inspired to possibly watch a sequel. The news that a sequel will not focus on fairy tale conventions is a good thing. Well.... here ya go....

In the new issue of Creative Screenwriting, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, screenwriters of SHREK, explain why they opted not to pen SHREK 2:

Rossio says, "Many great Shrek sequels can be made. We felt that all of the good sequel versions had a similar quality, which is that you'd always begin with the fairy tale conventions and out of those conventions you'd tell a dramatic and funny story. And the story that was chosen for SHREK 2 was actually one that does not deal with fairy tale conventions."

There ya have it!
