ALEXANDER THE GREAT To Be Directed By Martin Scorsese!!! Plus Clarification By Christopher McQuarrie on his future!

Man oh Man oh Man oooooh Man!!! Harry here, it seems that Epic filmmaking may very well have caught on with Scorsese after shooting GANGS OF NEW YORK.

And why not. Martin Scorsese led the charge to restore SPARTACUS and EL CID!!! Two of the greatest epics of all time. He has the film fully financed via overseas money, meaning no need for studio interference! He already has his star, Leonardo DiCaprio! Now I know some of you non-history types will bitch and moan about that, but you need to realize that Alexander was a pretty young guy when he decided to rule the world and set about doing it.

And how's the script? Well it was originally written on spec by Peter Buchman, then Christopher McQuarrie picked it up years ago. It became his dream project, a crusade to get it made. He and Buchman hammered away at the script making it everything they could. I read one of the drafts, which was simply fantastic... but that was over a year ago, I'll have to re-read it, but.... DAMN!!!! Martin Scorsese is going to do ALEXANDER THE GREAT!!!! Following GANGS OF NEW YORK with a project like this... we may very well be witnessing the first MAJOR shift in Scorsese's cinematic world in quite some time.

I still want to see him do a musical sometime.

Finally Christopher McQuarrie sent a note clarifying what was really said by him at the University of Michigan the other day. Here ya go...

Harry,

I wanted to clarify errors reported by your source regarding my recent talk at the University of Michigan. The scene your source describes was a writing exercise offered in reponse to a question regarding my process. Whether or not that scene finds its way into a film and whether or not Mr. Del Toro decides to be in it has yet to be determined. Your source also fails to report that I left The Prisoner in March before starting work on the screenplay and the departure was mutually amicable.

While I respect and appreciate what you and your site do, I would hope we could avoid erroneous reports in the future. To that end I am including my contact information and will make myself available to you for confirmation or clarification as needed.

Finally, if your source is reading this I would like to say that while I have worn other hats in the film industry, I am first and foremost a writer. I try to limit my speaking engagements exclusively to that craft and sharing my experiences with those who hope to make careers as writers. If I cannot speak frankly and without fear of being misquoted, I cannot freely communicate what little I may have to offer. I hope you take that into consideration the next time you welcome a speaker who comes to assist you in your endeavors to enjoy a career in film.

Sincerely,

Christopher McQuarrie
