Is COFFIN.... THE COFFIN - Re: Titles Whispered About LightStorm and James Cameron
Hey folks, Harry here... Yesterday, I wrote a piece on the rumored WWII Army Air Force Bomber script that I've heard Bill Wisher is working on for LIGHTSTORM... and in the intro, I wrote:
Recently the whispers have become rather cryptic, like the one about a
project codenamed or named COFFIN... that's it. No details or writers... only
COFFIN. Mysterious.
Well, a curious and speculative reader out there in the world named Evan, wrote in with the following:
This sounds like it could possibly be that Cameron got the rights to the new
Oni comic book "The Coffin". Most people tend to leave the "The" off of it.
The book is written by Phil Hester and art is by Mike Huddleston.
The 3rd issue comes out in two weeks. It's about a scientist who builds a
metal shell capable of holding a person's soul. You don't die, you go into
this body. It's very hard for me to describe. I would suggest you get the
issues yourself to read it and let the fans know what you think.
Oni has said they're going to make an annoucement this week that Coffin has
been optioned for movie rights. They just haven't said where yet. My money is
it's Cameron.
Evan

Well, I went over to ONIPRESS.COM and took a look see. Upon arrival I clicked on comics, then clicked on THE COFFIN by Phil Hester and Mike Huddleston. As I was looking at this, I got a phone call from one of my feminine flys at Casa De Cameron that told me that all she knew was that Cameron was big on attaching Guillermo Del Toro to the project, but she didn't know anything beyond the title.
Ok, this is what we call circumstantial evidence. I actually saw Guillermo earlier today and he didn't mention word one about Cameron and him to me, and he's leaving for the next 5-6 months for Prague tomorrow. BUT having read the premise of THE COFFIN... about well, CLICK HERE AND READ THE PREMISE... All I can say is that material is EXACTLY the sort of thing that Guillermo loves. A man's soul trapped in a coffin of his own design, forever doomed to walk the earth.... THAT SCREAMS DEL TORO.... it has doomed souls.... mechanical fetishistic detailings.... and bloody story progressions.
While I don't know for certain that the ONI PRESS THE COFFIN is the James Cameron Lightstorm property COFFIN.... it sure as hell should be. NOW, if Evan is right and Oni is going to make announcement this week about THE COFFIN being optioned for Movie Rights.... heh... I'd say, WE NAILED IT FIRST! Cuz, I've now heard from a couple of genetically engineered super flys about it.
