Well folks, we've been hearing about this film for a few months now, from the rumor stage to the scripting stage to the casting stage and now to the shooting stage. From one of my most trusted spies I hear that the script for this project is "up there or better than CRUSADE"!!! So it looks like, if Ridley can deliver this, we'll be up for the first in a line of HUGE EPICS coming our way! And given the eye-dazzling candy we got from THE MILL in BABE: PIG IN THE CITY... it looks like the effects are in very very good hands....

There is an article in today's Mail on Sunday (UK) with these pics from Farnham in Surrey. The feature explains that Russell Crowe plays a deposed general forced to fight his best friend in the gladiators' arena, whilst Joaquin Phoenix plays the Roman Emperor. As in SPR, real amputees have been recruited for authenticity. The cast and crew moves on next to Malta for ancient Rome scenes.
