THE GREEN MILE casting!!!
Well, before I get to the scoop, I feel I must yet again correct Variety. In their story about THE GREEN MILE yesterday they alluded to the concept that Tom Hanks was playing the role of John Coffey, the death row inmate in Steven King's novella. *BUZZER* Wrong. He plays the head guard on Death Row with a major urination problem. However, their bit about Sam Rockwell's joining the cast. However, on the more exciting side of things it looks like Eugene "Doug Hutchison" Tooms is slithering his way in that long green corridor with the doorway to death. The only way Tom Hanks is playing Coffey is if he grows to over 6 ft 6, 300lbs and becomes black. I don't see that happening, unless a significant amount of the budget swings over to Rick Baker's effects studio...
Long time reader, first time writer, yaddayaddayadda. Anyway, I am
an actor living in Hollywood. I have been here about a year plugging
away doing extra-work and auditioning. I have had the pleasure of
meeting many industry people as well as other actors. A good friend
mine is an actor by the name of Doug Hutchison (probably best known for
his portrayal of Eugene Tombs on a popular Fox show about to become a
movie and the Polaroid Man of Millenium, he has also been in A Time to
Kill and Batman and Robin). Doug was just cast as the main antagonist
opposite Tom Hanks in the Green Mile. This is not a major scoop, but I
do know that rehearsals start in July with shooting in August. Just
thought your readers might be interested.
Just call me,
Otis
